The Anna Smith Papers contain several documents prepared by Anna Smith relating to the Mende language. One item is a Mendi-English dictionary. It is a typed copy and is 189 pages in length. Typed copies of the Gospels of Mark (twenty-six pages) and John (thirty-seven pages) are included. There are several copies of the Gospel of Luke. One is hand written and one is typed (fifty pages).

In addition, there is an eighty-six page typed copy of a grammar guide by M. Eaton entitled "Studies of the Mende Language."

The Papers of Anne E. Herbert is a varied collection which contains correspondence, programs, and articles. The correspondence consists of "Dear Friends" letters from 1950-1958 from a variety of missionaries and mission stations. There is a folder of information on mission work in Bolivia that contains articles and correspondence from 1955-1958. An ecumenical chart from 1967 is included. Program materials from the " Twentieth Conference on New and Furloughed Missionaries" held at DePauw University in Indiana from June 14-20, 1956, are part of this collection. There is a copy of an April 1946 report prepared by Frank T. Cartwright entitled Report on the Special Mission to China. A news clipping from the Alta Advocate (Dinuba, California) dated March 28, 1968, contains a biographical sketch of Ann Harder who was associated with Herbert while both were in Hong Kong. Additional miscellaneous unrelated items are also included in this material.

The bulk of the collection consists of manuscripts including: 90 Years of Meaningful Living; Korea Missions; Reconstruction of Education in Korea; Christ and His Beacon; and Christ and His Torches in Korea. A diary and a journal on healthy living are also included. University Plans and materials on Chosen Christian College and a Conspiracy Trial are provided as well. There is a set of materials written in Hangul.

Reports in the collection include: Chosen Christian College Reports; Korean Reports; and Miscellaneous Reports.

Minutes consist of: Official Minutes of the Nineteenth Annual Meeting of the Korea Mission in May, 1903; Looking Backward Minutes of a Wonsun Beach Association Executive Committee Meeting in 1916; two Annual Meetings pertaining to Chosen Christian College in March, 1922 and May, 1922; and a meeting held by the Association of Methodist Missionaries.

Assorted Korean Publications, Korean Publication Fragments and clippings are available. Named publications include: The Korean Pacific Express: Periscope on Asia; Korean Student Quarterly; The Korea Mission Field; and The Korea Klipper. A Chinese/English Dictionary and a published manuscript, Michigan and Korea, are also included.

The bulk of correspondence consists of Official Letters. Other letters are addressed to dear friends and family members. Correspondence pertaining to the Pre-Cleveland Commission on the Far East in 1949 is included.

General Documents include: Miscellaneous records; photographs; and an Identification Pin.

The collection contains papers which document the personal and professional activities of Arthur R. Clippinger. Included in this collection are diaries, correspondence, General Conference materials, information about the first assembly of the World Council of Churches, programs, and brief biographical material.

There are ten diaries in this collection. They are dated 1904-1935. The years 1906-1908 are missing. Entries in these diaries are only a few lines and discuss daily events, church activities, and weather conditions. Expense records are often found in the back of these books.

The correspondence in this collection is dated 1928-1946 and relates to Clippinger's professional work as a bishop, specifically the 1929 General Conference. All but a few of the letters are addressed to him.

Materials related to General Conference include two undated delegate election ballots. Clippinger's name and the number of votes he received appear on both. There is also a complete list of delegates to the General Conference, but this is undated. Other items on General Conference include a conference program from 1925, a Quadrennial Report prepared by Clippinger in 1925, the 1925 Quadrennial Report of the Board of Administration, a list of committees for the 1933 conference, and the 1933 Quadrennial Address by the Bishops.

One folder contains material on the first assembly of the World Council of Churches. This meeting was held in Amsterdam, Holland, from August 22 to September 4, 1948. Clippinger was a delegate to this assembly. Items from this meeting include a report of the delegates, and notes and personal impressions on the conference. On February 8, 1949, Clippinger presented a speech at the International Council of Religious Education in Columbus, Ohio, about the World Council of Churches meeting in Amsterdam, and this speech is included in his papers.

There are two programs in this collection. One is from the Joint Meeting of the Councils of Administration of the Central Area of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. This was held in February 1924 in Westerville, Ohio. Clippinger was the chairman of this meeting. The other program is from the Third Annual Session of the Central District Conference, a meeting held in December 1940 in Bowling Green, Ohio. Clippinger was the presiding officer of this meeting.

The remaining material consists of an undated list of delegates and alternates from the Southeast Ohio Conference of the United Brethren Church and a few biographical items. The biographical material is an obituary of Harriet R. Clippinger, Arthur's mother who died in 1917; a 1919 announcement of the birth of John Arthur Clippinger, a son of Arthur; and fraternal greetings signed by Clippinger on behalf of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ.

This collection contains many of Drury's publications: his biography of Otterbein, as well as a number of pamphlets; photographs; Drury's letters that he authored, and letters he received; letters or collections of old works that Drury kept for himself.

Among his letters, most of them are demonstrative of the kind of inquiry he was making into Otterbein and the history of the United Brethren Church in Christ. For the kind of histories that Drury was writing, he was meticulous about dates and the need to keep them straight in order to construct a coherent history. Much of his personal notes contain lists of dates, where it is clear he was hovering over the page attempting to connect disperate material or events. The largest collection of letters comes between 1883-1884, where Drury was ostensibly doing the bulk of his historical writing and attempting to contact any living witnesses available.

The photographs of this collection are largely unmarked, though there is at least one picture of A.W. Drury that is identified.

Drury's interest in Christian apologetics eventually led to an interest in things secular, as he later developed an interest in behavioral patters and their relation to religion; this led to his interest in William James, and the pamphlet he wrote on Psychology of Religion.

This collection reflects the missionary work of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Church in India. On one level it documents general missionary work from the mid-nineteenth century to the mid- twentieth century. Another level documents the lives and ministries of individuals who were part of this missionary enterprise from its conception. However, the predominate level that is documented is the ministry of the Badley family. The Badleys gave two generations to Methodist missions in India by dedicating themselves to preaching the Gospel to a people they came to admire and respect.

Correspondence between the Badley family and other individuals within this collection can be found in their respective series and subseries with some overlapping. Not all of the correspondence and/or subsequent record types found in this collection are directly related to the Badley family.

Women's records are located throughout this collection. In most cases they received subseries identification with the exception of photographs.

Part of this collection is in fragile condition.

The largest element of the collection consists of Methodist newspapers from Estonia, Latvia and Russia. The time span for these periodicals range from 1909 to 1940. Here the researcher will find a written record of the church's main activities in these specific geographic areas. Many of the periodicals are not in English but their native tongues. There are, however, some English language documents with the most important being the index for the Russian Christian Advocate. General administration records are the next section within the collection. Various minutes make up the bulk of these records. Other documents include histories of the areas, one local church set of records, an Estonian Book of Discipline (1927), and other ephemera. One of the unique aspects of this collection is Bishop Nuelsen's records while serving as bishop for the Baltic-Russia area. These records were separated out from the general administrative records in order to highlight Nuelsen's work for these annual conferences during the turbulent times they both found themselves in. Most of the documents found here are photocopies. The orginal records can be found at various institutions in the Russian-Baltic region.

This collection contains materials from the ministry of Rev. Barbara Troxell from 1980-2009. The collection is divided into three series. The first series contains materials from retreats that Troxell led along with sermons and other lecture materials. The second series contains materials and interviews Troxell conducted with United Methodist bishops and clergywomen about the concept of ministerial authority for an unpublished book. The interviews have been restricted from the public. The final series contains general materials from events Troxell attended, clippings, and other research material and notes from her ministry.

The collection contains sixteen volumes of Hill's philosophy of government during the mid-twentieth century.  The manuscripts reflect a populous view of government in light of the Bible and Christian theology. Also included are photocopies of his credentials and newspaper clippings celebrating his sixty-fifth and seventy-first wedding anniversaries.

This collection is comprised of documentation related to the investigation of Bishop James Cannon Jr. This collection contains transcripts concerning the investigation by the College of Bishops of the Methodist Church, South; meeting minutes; letters, telegraphs, postcards, and other correspondence from witnesses, friends, banks, finance companies, employers, clergy, professional colleagues, and acquaintances of Bishop Cannon and other parties directly and indirectly involved with the investigation. Also contained within this collection are the complete trial transcript and verdict, newspaper articles, periodicals, and General Conference Journal of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, relative to the investigation.
