This collection is made up of administrative material from the Foreign Missionary Society and its various mission fields. It also includes material regarding the 1898 Sierra Leone massacre of missionaries and the trial of Daniel F. Wilberforce for cannibalism.

This collection includes dossiers, correspondence, letters, records of annual conferences and agencies, subject files, manuscripts, articles, personal and family papers, photographs, negatives, clippings, and other printed matter. Bishop Springer's papers primarily document the interaction of American social and ecclesiastical structures forged at the edge of the American frontier with a region of the African continent which was undergoing the process of civilization. Reflected also among these materials is the impact which such interaction had upon Americans who went to spend their lives in the African mission fields, as well as the impact upon Africans themselves. Three bound diaries. The first few pages of the third volume also contain notes created by John Roesner. Article clipping from 1927 Evangelical Messenger that sums up his service to the church.

This collection contains sermons, notes, news clippings, articles, speeches, and photographs which document the ministerial career of I. F. Bergstresser. The bulk of this collection is comprised of sermons. A few sermons are in German. Articles Bergstressed used in preparing the sermons are included. Topics in his sermons include temperance, patriotism, Labor Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Rally Days, Sunday School, and missions. In addition, there are several funeral sermons including those given on the deaths of Matilda A. Yeager, Lewis D. Krause, Louise E. Wentz, and Mrs. Wesley Bowman. Some of the addresses Bergstresser gave while he was a minister are included in this collection. Other items in this collection are mission materials (including two booklets by Walter Haller), a book on the first commemorative historical marker in the Evangelical Church, religious tracts, and a pastor's funeral book. There are also several large black and white panoramic photographs of conference meetings and conventions held in the Evangelical Church.

Consists of manuscripts and clippings. Includes Commentary on the Discipline, from the Bishop S.C. Breyfogle Library. Bishop Breyfogel used this in the preparation of his Digest of Evangelical Church Law. There is also a journal/autobiography written by Yeakel between the years of 1853 to 1865. Another item of note is an oversized scrapbook full of clippings which reflect articles written by Yeakel, points of interest, and a history of "old-time Evangelical preaching."

The collection contains sixteen volumes of Hill's philosophy of government during the mid-twentieth century.  The manuscripts reflect a populous view of government in light of the Bible and Christian theology. Also included are photocopies of his credentials and newspaper clippings celebrating his sixty-fifth and seventy-first wedding anniversaries.

This collection is comprised of correspondence, sermons, clippings, articles, postcards, poems, and manuscripts. The manuscripts cover topics such as biographies, camp-meetings, history of the denomination, sermons and sermon notes, devotionals, and published texts.

Ferrer was a key figure in Philippine Methodism. His professional interests were many and are reflected throughout this collection. Ferrer's correspondence covers a diversity of topics: episcopal matters which include the Filipino episcopal controversy in the early 1970s, responses to articles he had written, national and world events, Central Conference business, ministry, and ecumenism. Those in correspondence with Ferrer include government officials, district superintendents, bishops of The United Methodist Church, officers of the Philippine church, Church World Service workers, the Christian Century magazine, the Philippine Federation of Churches, National Council of Churches in the Philippines, as well as staff members of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church (U.S.). One folder contains bound correspondence. The minutes and reports reflect the work of the Filipino church on all levels. Here are the records from conference lay leaders, United Methodist Men (MACUMM), local clergy, district superintendents, annual conferences, College of Bishops, National Council of Churches in the Philippines, and other ecumenical organizations.

There are a number of supporting documents within the Administrative subseries that contain church statistics, a list of Filipino Crusade Scholars, resolutions, petitions, Judicial Council decisions, pastoral appointments to the local church, and other general administrative type records.

Manuscripts and addresses are next. Most of the manuscripts are one to two pages in length. Others are longer. Ferrer was a prolific writer and wrote about rural ministry, church autonomy, church history, memorials, biographies, spiritual care, sociology, autobiographies, and various levels of church administration. The content for the shorter manuscripts tends to reflect unpublished news releases and meditations. Some of the manuscripts were later used as addresses. Those records that are specifically identified as addresses are inclined to be episcopal in nature. The newsletters and bulletins cover not only Methodist work, but pan-denominational and social work within the Philippines as well. Publications and pamphlets contain souvenir books, histories, church administration, sociology, and study books.

Programs reflect Ferrer's pastoral duties, which included dedications, school programs, annual conferences, and installations. Another subseries within the collection are the scrapbooks. There are two of them. One is a remembrance book on the life of Gumersindo Garcia, a Filipino physician. The other contains clippings of Ferrer's newspaper articles. The final two subseries in this first series are Personal and Miscellaneous. The former contains a curriculum vitae, biographical sketch, and the Ferrer family genealogy. The latter embraces a clipping, curriculum vitae for Narciso Albarracin, a governmental minster of education, and a thank-you note from a group of visiting Methodists from the United States.

The second series contains manuscripts by various authors. The subjects are multi-faceted. Authors include: Restitute C. Basa, Isamu Chiba, Onofre G. Fonceca, Ezekias Gacutan, David T. Lara, Juan Naboong, M. Ellia Peter, and Victor Claveria Vinluan. A sampling of topics contained therein include information on the laity, ecclesiastical leadership, Protestantism in the Philippines, Filipino Methodism, annual conferences, schools, and ecumenical work.

The Mary Dumm Papers document her work as a missionary. The bulk of this collection is correspondence written by Dumm to her parents, Elizabeth and Walter Dumm of Madison, New Jersey. Dumm wrote to her parents on a weekly basis while she was in India, and this correspondence is from 1959 to 1972. Several letter indices were included with the letters. These were probably prepared by her parents, but are not complete for the entire years. Also included in the correspondence are several postcards from a trip Dumm took to Europe in 1969. Other correspondence included in this collection is addressed to her parents and concerns Mary's work. Some of these letters were written by individuals who had visited or who had contact with Dumm while she was stationed in India. The remaining letters addressed to her parents are from the Vellore Christian Medical College Board, the Women's Division of Christian Service of the Board of Global Ministries, and "Dear Friends" letters from other missionaries in India.

There are numerous news clippings regarding Dumm's work, life, and accounts of talks and presentations on her missionary experience in India. All the clippings have been photocopied from the originals because of deterioration. Programs and newsletters also document some of these presentations. Twenty-five black and white photographs are also included. All have been identified and dated. The second part of this collection documents the Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore, India. Items in this section of the papers include publications, articles, miscellaneous materials such as brochures, book announcements, pamphlets, and news clippings.

This collection reflects the missionary work of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Church in India. On one level it documents general missionary work from the mid-nineteenth century to the mid- twentieth century. Another level documents the lives and ministries of individuals who were part of this missionary enterprise from its conception. However, the predominate level that is documented is the ministry of the Badley family. The Badleys gave two generations to Methodist missions in India by dedicating themselves to preaching the Gospel to a people they came to admire and respect.

Correspondence between the Badley family and other individuals within this collection can be found in their respective series and subseries with some overlapping. Not all of the correspondence and/or subsequent record types found in this collection are directly related to the Badley family.

Women's records are located throughout this collection. In most cases they received subseries identification with the exception of photographs.
